What we collect (and what we never ask for)
To run Kamelo, we need very little: a random technical ID for your family, a first name or nickname for each child, their grade, their favorite color and their practice results. If you sign in, your email address or the identifier Apple provides.
We never ask for your child’s last name, date of birth, school, address or photo. Kamelo uses no location, no voice recording and no face analysis.
The homework photo
- It’s cropped and shrunk on your phone, its metadata is stripped, and the name written at the top of the page is masked before it’s sent.
- It’s read by Claude, Anthropic’s AI, with your consent, given on a screen that names Anthropic before the first photo.
- It’s deleted from our servers within 24 hours. Only the exercise you confirmed is kept, with no image.
- If you ask Kamelo to learn a new kind of exercise, and only with your consent for that request, the photo is kept for 30 days to be studied, then deleted.
Your child’s space
The child space has no ads, no analytics, no purchases and no links out of the app. Your child never chats with an AI: everything Kamelo says is written in advance, and your child never types anything to an AI. They only see exercises you’ve checked. Text shown to children is screened, and a day without practice is never presented as a loss.
Adults in charge
Purchases, settings, links, help and consents are in the parent space, behind a 6-digit code. Reminders go to you, on school nights only. No notification is ever sent to your child.
Where your data lives
Your family’s data is hosted in Paris, in the European Union. Photos are read by Anthropic, in the United States, with the safeguards the GDPR requires for that transfer (standard contractual clauses). Subscriptions are handled by the App Store or Google Play, with our provider RevenueCat.
The rules for children
In the US, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies. Before any photo is read, the US version of Kamelo gives you a notice and asks for your verifiable consent as the parent. You can withdraw that consent at any time in Settings › Privacy, and typing homework in by hand keeps working. Your child also has a notice written for them, to read together. Kamelo also follows the UK’s Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children’s Code): high-privacy settings by default, no profiling and no nudge techniques.
Your rights
At any time, you can export your data, delete a child’s profile or the whole account from the app, withdraw your consent to photo reading (typing-in by hand still works), or write to us. The details are in the privacy policy.
