What the AI does
- It reads the photo you took: the planner line, a printed sheet, a spelling list, a lesson.
- It recognizes the kind of homework (a spelling list, sight words, addition and subtraction facts, multiplication facts, mental math, number words, a poem to memorize, a lesson or vocabulary in another language) and pulls out the content.
- For a lesson, it suggests three to five questions, each with the sentence from the lesson it comes from, suited to your child’s grade. These questions are labeled as written by AI.
- It checks that text shown to your child is suitable for their age.
What it never does
- It doesn’t solve homework or hand over ready-made answers: Kamelo has your child practice what the teacher assigned, and the right answer only appears after your child has tried.
- It doesn’t talk to your child. Kamelo, the character, only says lines written in advance, and your child never types anything to an AI.
- It doesn’t see your child’s name: the name is masked on your phone before the photo is sent, and it’s not part of the data we transmit.
- It decides nothing for you: no exercise reaches your child without your confirmation.
Which AI, and why
Kamelo uses Claude, by Anthropic, called from our servers in Paris. Anthropic’s terms say no model is trained on your data and nothing is kept beyond processing the request, except in the cases they describe (at most 30 days, and up to 2 years for content flagged by Anthropic’s safety systems). No other AI receives your photos.
You stay in charge
The checking screen is at the heart of Kamelo. You see every exercise it recognized, with anything it isn’t sure about highlighted in orange. You fix, delete, confirm. Every AI result can be reported to us if something looks wrong. And at any time, you can withdraw your consent in Settings › Privacy: photos are no longer read, and typing-in by hand keeps working.
Why there’s no chat with Kamelo
Free chat with an AI has no place in an app for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Kamelo is a character: he reacts, changes color, encourages and celebrates. His words are written and reviewed by an adult, in French, British English and American English. It’s a deliberate design choice.
Why the free plan limits photos
Every photo the AI reads costs us real money. So the free plan includes three photo scans in the first 14 days, then one a month. Typing homework in by hand and replaying exercises you’ve already created are never limited. Kamelo Premium allows unlimited photo scans, within fair use.
